Fun and engaging one-on-one beginner lessons for you and your friends while visiting Lamu Island.
This is a one-of-a kind class, in a beautiful location, from the only woman woodcarver in Lamu where you get to work with your hands and connect with your creative side. Experience first hand immersion into local culture and history through learning this beautiful handcraft passed down the generations.
The lessons are held at Earth Love Healing Center in Shella. A beautiful and serene permaculture shamba (Swahili for farm) that has been regenerated and reclaimed from sand dunes. Alternatively, the lessons may be done at your preferred location & only a sturdy table would be required.
You would carve on Swahili Wooden plates that I have prepared from local hardwoods and at the end of the lesson, leave with a functional yet beautiful piece of art. You get to appreciate the valuable work that goes into working with your hands.
Refreshments are provided at the venue,
The lesson is 3 hours and is $50 per person. The price is inclusive of all the cost of materials and tools used.
The lesson is extremely child friendly and have an exceptional affinity to woodcarving! They usually know exactly what they want to carve and visibly bloom while doing it! I go at their pace, giving lots of encouragement and breaks.
